Floor Speech: April 17, 2023
So depending on what part of the state you’re in today, it may or may not look like spring yet. [It was] my understanding there was a couple of places it was snowing this morning. But rest assured, summer is coming. And with summer, of course, is the wonderful blooming of the construction cones and things of that nature.
You may notice that I’m wearing something a little bit different this morning on the floor. It’s a reminder that with all of the construction that’s coming up we want to be mindful of our construction workers. Because whether they’re DOT employees or guys working out on the power lines, or the water lines, or contractors of that nature we want to remember that while we appreciate all their work, we also want to make sure that they all get home to their families safely as well.
So, I just wanted to remind everybody today is the first day of National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week, and ask our employees out there to remember to “color up” – wear their hi-vis vests and other hi-vis clothing to make sure they get home safely and to remind members of the body and members of the public to keep our eyes open as the snow’s melting off. To be looking for that green or that orange and make sure that we are slowing down moving through those areas as we’re driving. And just letting everybody do their jobs to make our lives a little bit better as they’re working on building and improving on our infrastructure. And allow them to do their jobs safely and get home to their families.
